Ilkay Gundogan has agreed to terminate the remaining year of his contract with Barcelona and is heading to Manchester to sign with City.

Barcelona have agreed to terminate the remaining year of Ilkay Gundogan’s contract to allow the 33-year-old midfielder to return to Manchester City. With the midfielder flying to Manchester on Wednesday afternoon to undergo a medical and sign with the Citizens. According to Mundo Deportivo.UFABET

Gundogan signed a two-year contract with the option of a further year from Manchester City last summer. After his contract with the city expired. The 33-year-old midfielder played a total of 51 games in all competitions for the team under Xavi Hernandez. But the German midfielder did not fit in with the style of play under Hansi Flick.

The two parties reportedly held open talks. With Flick explaining his plans to Gundogan before the 33-year-old midfielder accepted and considered other options. Until he decided to return to City, with the Blaugrana facilitating the player by terminating the remaining year on his contract to pave the way for a free transfer back to the Citizens.

While selling Gundogan would save around €6.5m in wages. It would not be enough to register Daniel Olmo from RB Leipzig this summer, with the Blaugrana still working to free up salary cap space.
